Oakwood Elementary

Hannibal, MO - Hannibal Public Schools proudly announces that Oakwood Elementary School has been recognized as one of Missouri’s Gold Star Schools for 2024. This prestigious recognition, awarded by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), aligns with the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education.

2024 marks the first year that a school from Hannibal has received this distinguished recognition. Oakwood Elementary is celebrated for its outstanding academic achievement; this accolade is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the students, teachers, and staff at Oakwood Elementary.

Superintendent Susan Johnson expressed immense pride in this historic achievement, stating, "This prestigious award is a reflection of the high standards and dedication at Oakwood Elementary School. I am incredibly  proud of Oakwood Elementary's staff and students for this outstanding achievement.”

The Missouri Gold Star Schools program, established in 1991, uses criteria similar to that of the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program. The U.S. Department of Education will announce the Blue Ribbon Schools this fall, and we are hopeful for continued recognition of our exemplary performance.

We are #HannibalProud of our students, teachers, and staff for achieving such distinction and setting a standard of excellence in education.
